- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆Small town DMV that only helps out their own local friends. These ladies are obviously not familiar with how military & state tax exemptions work. They caused a lot stress & upset because they don't know the NYS DMV laws properly and tried to charge me 1800$ state tax for a vehicle that not only had state tax already paid on it (yes, I provided our finance paperwork documenting the state tax was paid), but was eligible for an exemption for active duty (even through they claimed we weren't because of a co-signer). I spent a lot of time traveling here twice to be misinformed & provided with incorrect forms. I ultimately got the correct answer straight from the NYS DMV headquarters in Albany & per their recommendation, I went to a different DMV office, got my car registered with no issues in 20 minutes time & NO repeat sales tax.
